Would you like city-wide wireless, at-home or in certain places?
At Home:
- Get DSL/Cable Subscription and buy an additional wireless router.
DSL usually requires subscription and it's a little slower, but it's
less. Cable is great in Chicago, costs about twice as much as DSL, but
no contract and in my particular case, cable internet is about 10
times faster than DSL, but only twice as expensive.
City-Wide:
- Many cell phone carries including Sprint and Cingular have wireless
cards. You shouldn't need a contract to buy the wireless cards, the
only problem is that you will pay more up front if you decide to go
without a contract.
Hotspots:
- You can buy credits from Starbucks hotspots or other similar
locations. Those do not require contracts.
Other:
- It might be useful to look at this site.

you could just set up a home network and then use the free hotspots
when you are on the road.
It all depends on your needs. Do you plan on travelling often? Do you
need to be connected on the road? What type of computer do you have.
