An asian american woman weighing 95 pounds and 50 years old is taking
Aciphex, Astelin and Evista. She then ingests 20mg of Aricept.
Thereafter, she becomes disoriented, dilusional, and quite ill. She
wanders in her house for several days until her son finds her. She
has a medical history significant for glaucoma mild arthritis and
cataracts. Her eyesight is acceptable
After taking the Aricept, her eyesight deteriorates substantially, but
her glaucoma and cataracts are no worse. In essence, she cannot see,
but the physical findings are not substantial enough to be the cause
of the deterioration. (I can give the exact language of the eye
doctors if needed)
Also, after taking the Aricept, she has developed severe paranoia
which has now been present for two years.
My questions concern whether taking Aricept alone or in combination
with the other drugs can cause such effects. I have looked for the
answer and found that paranoia and loss of vision are possible side
effects of taking Aricept, but the findings are qualified by a
statement that the placebo taking subjects also had the same effects.
