I need to find the brand name(s) of a red wine that does not have sulphur in it . . . by New Years. Someone told me that you can't make red wine without sulphur, that it's only the white wines that can be made without sulphur. Time is of the essence, as they say. Please help, thanks. |

Howdy-hi, TS. Thanks for accepting my suggestion as your answer. I've reposted the link below, with a bit of additional info. Coturri Natural Wines: Order Form http://www.coturriwinery.com/order.html "Coturri Winery never uses grapes that have been treated with pesticides, fungicides, or herbicides. The Coturri Winery Estate Vineyards are certified by the CCOF. No SO2 - no inoculation with sulfites, yeast cultures, no use of concentrates to boost sweetness, no added water, acids, or other manipulation of the wine." Coturri Natural Wines: Winemaking http://www.coturriwinery.com/winemaking.html Sulfur dioxide (SO2) and other sulfiting agents are often added to wines. They function as preservatives. SO2 is categorized as an "unclassifiable carcinogen," and may cause respiratory distress and/or headaches in those who are sensitive to it. More on SO2: Children's Health Environmental Coalition: sulfur dioxide http://www.checnet.org/healthehouse/chemicals/chemicals-detail-print.asp?Main_ID=387 Wine Aroma Dictionary: The Use of Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) in Wine http://www.aromadictionary.com/articles/sulfurdioxide_article.html This page may be helpful. Several of these wines say "no sulfites added": Organic Wine Press: Red Wines http://organicwinepress.com/reds.html Google search strategy: Google Web Search: so2 OR "sulfur dioxide" wine ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=so2+OR+%22sulfur+dioxide%22+wine I hope this helps! Coturri wines are unsulfured. Their merlot is delicious, and they offer other red wines: http://www.coturriwinery.com/order.html |
