I'm creating a custom made calendar for my brother whose hobby is
Oregon politics. You've seen calendars that have President's birthdays
on them-November 2, Warren G Harding, December 28, Woodrow Wilson,
etc.
     I already have the birthdays of Ted Kulongoski, Neil Goldschmidt,
Bob Packwood, Les AuCoin, Vic Atiyeh, Tom McCall, and Robert Straub. I
have downloaded photos of all of them to paste in my gift calendar.
     Now: Does anybody know the birthdays of Portland Mayor Vera Katz
or former State Supreme Court Justice Betty Roberts (ran, and lost to
Bob Packwood). Also-I can't find any downloadable photos of Betty
Roberts-where can I find one?

The Oregonian newspaper reported that Vera Katz's date of birth is August 3, 1933.

"Katz, 68, came face to face with a landscape of her childhood.
Vera Pistrak was born Aug. 3, 1933, in Dusseldorf, Germany, at birth
already a war refugee. "

It's worth noting that a web site called "Women of Achievement" puts
Mayor Katz's birthday on August 5th.

" 08-05-1933, Vera Katz - U.S. legislator and mayor. She was a member

Portland, Oregon, 1993."

Personally, though, I'd go with the August 3rd date from the Oregonian
since it's from a published source in a reputable newspaper.

According to an article that appeared in the New York Times, Betty
Roberts was born February 5, 1923.

"Senator Betty Roberts...
Born Feb. 5, 1923, she grew up in Texas and moved to Oregon in 1945."
