Although I have iTunes as my default music player, whenever I insert a certain CD that I want to convert to my iTunes format, a Windows Media Player starts up (it notes a Macrovision copyright as well) that completely overrides the ability of my iPod to download off the CD. iTunes doesn't even "see" my CD. How can I pull the music off this CD into iTunes? |

Hello prpro-ga, Windows Media Player is set as the default for Audio CD?s you put in your computer. Let me tell you how to change that. 1. Double click on My Computer or find it in your Start menu and open it up. 2. Right Click on the drive you use for your CD?s. For Example, mine is the E: Drive. 3. Choose Properties. 4. Chose the ?AutoPlay? tab that is available in the newly open Properties Window. 5. Go to the drop-down menu and choose ?Music CD?. 6. Change to Import Songs with iTunes. 7. Hit ?Apply? (Bottom Right) This will make it where when you insert a CD in your computer, iTunes knows to import the songs so that you can transfer them to your iPod. If this answer requires further explanation, please request clarification before rating it, and I'll be happy to look into this further. Nenna-GA Google Answers Researcher | |

I will assume that your O/S is Windows XP for this comment. From your description it sounds like WMP is setup to autoplay any Audio CD inserted to your computer. Please do the following: 1. Double click on the My Computer Icon on your desktop. 2. Right-click on your CD drive [If you have more than one select the one you use to play music] 3. In the tab, select Properties 4. Hopefully a new window should of opened, select Autoplay in the new window. 5. There should be a menu with 'Music Files' selected as default, click on that to open up the drop down menu, select Music CD. 6. From here you can select multiple options, I'm assuming the current action selected is Play Audio CD using WMP, scroll down and select Import Songs using iTunes. Hopefully this will solve your problem, alternatively you can select Prompt me each time to choose an action, so that you're not stuck to just 1 option. I hope this has solved your problem =) |

The solution is simple. wheather you have a pc or mac, all you have to do is open itunes, go to file: preferences, and then where it says "on cd insert", select import songs |

Hi, As you said iTune is the default music player and yet the Windows Media Player starts up when u insert the CD. What exactly the file extensions the CD is having ? as the music files comes with different extension, what you have to do is that you have to right click mouse on the that file and select the option "open with" and once you click on it you will see the popup of programs, choose iTune for it and once you do this whatever extension music files your CD is having will get played automatically via iTUNE. Happy listening.. Sanjay |

I'm sorry for the delay in answering, but -- for whatever reason -- none of your solutions work with this particular CD. This is just weird... |

Looks like you've run into a copy-protected cd. (as you may have suspected when you saw the Macrovision copyright notice ). The cd is purposely made so that it will only play in Windows Media Player or players which support the particular copy-protection scheme on the cd. Sadly, iTunes is not compatible (yet). Rumor has it that upcoming versions of the copy-protection software may support iTunes, but that doesn't help your problem now. Here's a link to an article about this: http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2004Jul/bma20040721026103.htm Sorry there's no easy solution. If you're annoyed by this restriction, you might take a few minutes to complain via email to the record company, macrovision, and/or Apple. Squeaky wheel gets the grease, as they say, and maybe if enough people gripe something will be done. -- amiable_feline |

Unfortunately, the problem isn't really solved -- I simply won't be able to move m music from this CD to my iPod. Needless to say, I won't buy from this recording label again! |
