I have a G4 Mac, with 512 RAM, OS 9.2.2. , Internet Explorer 5, Windows Media Player 7, I have also downloaded DivX 5.1.1. I also use Quick Time Player -6.0 Pro, Real Player, MacVCD PPC (what ever that is) When I download wmv's from the Internet only about half of them will open. Many have sound but no picture. Is there someway to find out what is wrong and to fix it or is there some thing I should be downloading to make it work better? Many Thanks. |

The problem is, the movies you are trying to view were created using the codecs from Windows Media Player 9, if you have OS X, download WMP9 here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/macintosh/osx/default.aspx Unfortunately if you do not have OS X, there is no way to view the files, unless they are re-converted to a different format, and/or re-encoded with a lower version of the codec. -TigerHeart |

Tigerheart, I believe that you have hit the problem on the head. I am still thinking if I want to go to all the trouble of putting OSX, but in the mean time how does one go about 1- "re-converted to a different format" or 2- "re-encoded with a lower version of the codec". Are those two solutions easy? If they can be done by a novice then consider yourself $10 richer. Thanks, and I await your reply. |

First, let me tell you DivX 5.1 for MacOS 9 codec doesn't work very well processing wmv files compressed in Windows. (check the txt file included in the installer). If you could get the Media player for Mac OS X the same codec will let you see the video just fine. I hope it helps. Phossil. |
