At the Merriam-Webster online dictionary there are audio files that
demonstrate how to pronounce most words:

Just click on the red speaker icon. Keep in mind that it is an
American dictionary, not a British one.

Hope this helps,

I doubt if there is any rule.

Certainly, I have never been taught any.

Of course, being a native English speaker, one simply learns from conversations.

It must be difficult for any non-native speaker to work out the
pronunciation except from a phonetic dictionary.

Good luck!

You will turn up lots of websites if you simply do a G**gle search on
the words "English pronunciation." I saw a website earlier today that
had done an amazing job of cataloging rules for pronunciation of
English, but I can't remember what I was looking for at the time and
can't find it now.

Is there a list of words in particular that you would like help with?
