manfred karl skuhr dob 26-05-1936 died between 1997 to 1999 in gran
canaria spain. unsure if manfred was married or in defacto
relationship with ursula who died not long after manfred .i am the
soul heir. i recieved a letter from some friends of theirs asking me
to sign some documents regarding their property a unit or house in
gran canaria. i was unawear of any property until the letter arrived.
they said the did not know i exsisted and that everything was left to
them.i asked about a will and they side stepped each time i dont know
the nature of the papers they wish me to sign but i feel that it is to
sign everything over to them. i asked of personal items and they said
there was none. for myself i need to know of any property and if there
is a will as im certain that my father didn't have one. im not sure
about ursula. the people seem like they dont want to reveal to much.
they were very vag about the property only that it was in gran
canaria. i would like to know if i am entitled to my fathers estate.
and what are my rights . thatnkyou

Hello maddad:
I have been researching for your information and let me explain you
a couple of things:
I have found an spanish website where you can query, by owner name, to
see if there's any property owned by your father, or by any other
person, this service is a government service and it costs money (9
/query). This web also lists all the individual offices (including
Gran Canaria ones) where you can call by phone to make a direct query.
I'm afraid this information it's not public, and you must pay for it,
I suggest you to contact by phone to the registry of property offices
in Gran Canaria, ask for an english speaker telling something like
"Por favor, puedo hablar con alguien en inglés", and tell them about
your problem. I'm sure they will tell you the right steps you must do
to know if there is any property you could inherit. Also think, the
friends of your father wouldn't need you to sign any document if your
father didn't have any property, so you must be really careful with
this. Also, after get the data you want from the registry of property,
contact with an spanish lawyer to solve your problem.
I can answer your question with the following data:
Spanish Registry of Property Website
A list of all the Local Registry of Property offices (address, phone,
fax)
A translation of your problem to spanish if you want to send a fax to
somewhere in Spain
A list of lawyers in Gran Canaria
If I provide all this information, your question will be answered?
Regards.

Hello:
If you want to get all this information, I think you have three
possibilities:
-Call yourself to all the proper offices and ask them to send that
documents to you by fax or regular mail. You will have problems with
the language.
-As you say, contact with someone here to get the documents for you.
There is no one better than a lawyer to do that. If you know someone
in Gran Canaria, you can ask him to do that for you.
-Let your lawyer do the job.
I don't know the cost of the copies of certificates, it's hard to say
but I think no more than 300 ?.
In any case you decide, I'm here to answer any question you have.
Regards.
