It is possible to control actions within a flash movie externally?

What I have is a flash movie that loads other movies in to layers (1
for a menu, 2 for content etc.) and I need a seperate menu system to
control what's loaded on to layer 2.

Is there anyway (wihtout building dedicated html and base flash movies
for each link) to get frame.swf to load with menu.swf on layer 1 and
then a specific content .swf file to load on layer 2 please?

It sounds like you want to have different content that you could later
change if you wanted without having to rebuild a Flash file. Am I
correct?

If so, you may wish to research how to use external data sources from
within Flash. A simple Google search of 'flash external data source'
is pulling up some very useful pages for me.

If I'm wrong in my interpretation of your question, could you be a
little more specific regarding your needs? There may be a solution for
your problem, but not easily discernable based on your current
question.

Another way I'm interpreting your question is that you want a dynamic
menuing system. Again, effectively using data from an external source
and building the menus on-the-fly may accomplish what you need. For
instance, you could store the menu items in a flat text file, an XML
file, or even a database, and every time you needed to update the
Flash movie's menu, you'd merely have to update the external data
source.
