I have just launched a job board website covering medical careers
within pharmaceutical, biotech, hospital and pharmacy. This is not
intended to be a monsterboard or hotjobs, rather it is a focused site
for the medical community.

To make any jobsite work clearly you need two things, 1. employers to
place ads and 2. candidates to see the ads and apply for the jobs.
Because of my extensive contact base with employers getting clients is
less of problem than getting candidates to find the site. My questions
is how can I creatively and economically generate increased traffic to
the site with potential job candidates in the medical space?

The obvious simple answer that doesn?t require research is bidding for
google adwords and maximizing the effect of metatags keywords to be
picked up by engines. The answer I'm looking for is something a bit
more fresh, creative and effective.

Hi medguy,
Directly paying for traffic, in my experience has always been
unsuccessful. Instead webmasters usually try to build back links.
Back links are any links to your site from another site. The first
thing you need to do is find the right places to get links from.
After doing a search in google for "medical job boards" I found
that medhunters.com is ranked first. I then searched
"link:www.medhunters.com" to show all of the pages linking to
medhunters. Since all of these link to medhunters.com many of them
will be willing to link to you. You can sort through these websites
and email them asking to put up a link to your site. Most sites also
require that your site links to them before they will link to you.
Because of this I would recommend that you build a directory on your
site where you can place all of your links.

Try other searches in google that are related to your site along
with "add url" or "submit site" as well. I searched "medical jobs"
"add url" (both at once) and many possible sites to get links from
came up.

Another way to get back links is to submit to directories.
Directories usually no not count as much as related sites but can help
your site.
Here is a good directory list that I use:
http://www.definiteweb.com/list-of-directories.htm

As well as building your backlinks you need to optimize your site.
Basically search engines love content, the more the better. Write
lots of text on each page if possible and load it with keywords.
To find useful keywords try this:
http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
This lists how many searches for the keywords you chose were done last month.

If you work hard your site should get traffic in a few months. If
this sounds like too hard you can try paying someone to promote your
site. I prefer guru.com for this because you can make your own
project and have professionals bid on it so you can choose whatever
fits your site best.

here are some other useful links:

http://www.ozzu.com - A webmaster forum

follow wormser's advice. Plus,

I have found that actual classifed Ads in newspapers have done well
for my websites. Espeically since you have Job information, post a
simple class ad in the newspaper geographical area that the job is
located. ( point them to your website url).

"Still looking for Medical Jobs?
Check out www.yourwebsite.com

something to that effect, if not the actual job url itself.

Most larger newspaper also have web site classifed, that are cheaper
than the Newsprint, and you can have a straight link.

The search directories and Links are the best way.

Also if you write an article or two about the subject and post those
on various article submission sites, you can get a free link back to
your site as the author. Those articles carry alot of weight and can
get "re-published" in enzines and other places.

Eric
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments. I had heard more than once that reciprocol
links were in some way easily identified and discounted by search
engines so they were not on my target list. Writing / submitting
articles, though slow, probably has a long lasting effect is place at
right sites. Newspaper ads - interestign thought... Thanks for the
links.
