How many medical professionals are there in the united States?  I am
looking for total professionals by category:  800,000 physicians, x
nurses, x physician assistants, x nurse practitioners, x educators
(e.g., diabetes educators), x physical therapists, etc.  I also need
Canada separately.

According to the  U.S. Department of Labor, Career Guide to
Industries, 2006-07 Edition , there are approximately 13,062,000 
health professionals in the United States.
