Hi marinibug,

Yes, sure, the disability benefit paid by the CPP is payable to you
even if you live outside of Canada.

General Information About The Canada Pension Plan
There are three kinds of Canada Pension Plan benefits:
    * disability benefits (which include benefits for disabled
contributors and benefits for their dependent children);
    * retirement pension; and
    * survivor benefits (which include the death benefit, the
survivor's pension and the children's benefit).
16. Can I receive my Canada Pension Plan payments outside Canada?
Yes, provided you meet all Canada Pension Plan eligibility conditions.
Payments are made anywhere in the world in the local currency when
applicable and, if not, in Canadian dollars. If you live in the United
States and have your payment deposited directly to a US financial
institution, the funds are automatically converted into US dollars"

For interest and to clarify, read the following article. It is in
regards to "whether periods of receipt of disability pension under the
CPP in a foreign country should also count as periods of residence in
Canada for Old Age Security Act purposes", but it clearly shows that
you can receive the payments while outside Canada.

I was glad to find this for you. If you have any questions, please
post a clarification request and wait for me to respond before

Thank you,

What about private insurers? Do they continue to submit benefits if a
claimant moves?

Hi marinibug,

Hmm, you really need to check your policy but it's very possible
(probable) that if you move while receiving disability payments from a
private company they will cancel your claim. Call the CLHIA, I'm sure
they will be able to help you.

"It's not difficult to shop for disability insurance. There are only a
few companies selling individual coverage in the Canadian marketplace.
You can call the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association for a
complete list of companies that offer long-term non-cancellable
individual disability insurance in Canada."

I work for Ontario Works and as far as I know, disability payments in
Canada cannot be transferred to another country.
