I have a Crucial 512mb flash drive which was working fine until I
attempted formatting it to FATX for use with an XBox - this did not
work. Now neither my PC or XBox recognize the device correctly. In
both Windows and Ubuntu 5.10 it shows up as a USB Flash Disk but when
I try to check the contents, it says no media is inserted. The same
happens if I try to format it with the Windows Computer Management
control panel. GParted doesn't even recognize it. All I want to do is
get it formated back to FAT so I can use it again.

mhardy...

If you're trying unsuccessfully to format it in XP,
try finding a PC with Windows 98, and formatting it
there.

Let me know where this takes you...

You could also try taking it to a friend's house or an apple store and
formatting it to FAT using disk utility on a Mac OSX, it may have
fewer problems because it uses a different recognition method than XP.

Thanks for the replies, I will give it a try in Win 98 but I don't
have access to a Mac, and there are no Apple stores where I live.

What you could possibly do here is go to Crucial's website and
download any and all drivers and utilities for that device. I would
surely update the drivers. Which reminds me, when you go to the
device manager, does it display the device in there without any ! or ?
marks over the hardware?

Upon researching this for you, I ran into a utility called "ozxmemory"
which is downloadable here:

that this link will redirect you to a download link. For security
reasons, if you would like to pick OzXMemory from the list of
downloads, you can go here:

I can't find any drivers for that drive, and I've tried OZXmemory
already, that doesn't show anything different explorer. All devices
are installed correctly, no errors in the device manager whatsoever.
