I am looking for statistical evidence, articles, studies, etc. that
provide concrete evidence of the following. Convince a pessimist that
these presumptions are true:

1. Engagement in, specifically, the activity of songwriting, reduces
negative behavior (or has a positive benefit) in at-risk youth.

2. Children who participate in music programs not only show improved
academic performance and fewer disciplinary problems, but also develop
collaborative and communications skills that become a lifelong asset
to the individual, the family and to the community.

(The more evidence you can find regarding specifically, learning &
engaging in "songwriting", the more precise the results in this
request.) Please provide as thorough a response as possible. Help me
convince a funder for our non-profit.) Thank you.

Hi Bella Aria,
This won't be much help, but I believe that ANY program that can
engage at-risk youth and get them involved in a productive group
activity will have a positive benefit. I also believe that a learning
experience outside of school can improve academic performance by
demonstrating to/allowing the person to recognize that he or she can
improve performance through practice and application.

But I am no authority. At least this posting will bring your question
back to the top of the pile.

Regards, Myoarin

Thank you Myoarin, for your comment and bringing your question back up
to the top of the pile. I certainly agree with you.

I am writing a grant for funding and have been requested to include
"evidence" that our premise is true, preferably statistic evidence.
Why do you suppose that none of the researchers is accepting my
question for answer? Is the price too low?
Bella
