I want to buy Microsoft Front Page to create web pages. However, some of the complaints about this program is that posting to the web requires that the web site have Front Page extensions. What are "extensions" and is there an easy way to correct for this problem? Thanks. |

FrontPage extentions are something (as far as I know) optional. Sites don't recuire thease extentions, but they support them. So there's no point in buying Frontpage just for this. Better get openoffice.org and you'll get thesame for free. Just save your pages as html and you'll be fine. |

You can turn off the use of Front page extensions. |

FrontPage Extensions are CGI programs (basically scripts) which provide the server side implementation needed for all versions of Microsoft FrontPage. FrontPage extensions are required in order to properly upload and use many of the tools and WebBots that FrontPage offers. If you are designing your web site using Microsoft FrontPage, you will need to have FrontPage extensions installed in order for you to be able to use the full functionality of the features. But not all hosts offer FrontPage extensions, so if you plan on using FrontPage, it is important to check that your chosen host offers the extensions. Some web hosts will offer it for free when you sign up, while others require a nominal monthly or yearly fee to install and update them. I hope it helps. Phossil. |

Online-Solutions.org does offer the front page ext at no cost. I am currently going through them for a test site. |

I would use dreamweaver MX 2004 it supports more document formats then frontpage. it also puts less senseless things that shows that it was generated by frontpage. but 90% of web hosts provide frontpage extensions at no extra cost. |

You can use FrontPage to design the web pages themselves, but without the Server Extensions you will be limited to only being able to use basic HTML pages. The extensions on the server add the ability to put counters, forms, and other eye candy products that use special coding from the Microsoft programs. If the web host you plan on using does not support front page extensions it would be a waste of money to purchase the product. Other programs such as open office as mentioned earlier will give you the same design elements for your web page but the products are free. The dreamweaver product mentioned is a little more complex than Frontpage, I wouldn't recommend it if you are a first time web page designer. |
