Was Japan forced to pay war reparations to USA. I know that
individuals or private groups sued Japan for forced labour or sex
slavery, however my question is was there an "OFFICIAL" assessment
made upon Japan by USA

The US imposed extensive reparations on Japan, after recommendations
by a formal Reparations Committee.

Most of the payments were in-kind, in the form of existing equipment
-- a sort of organized looting.  Entire factories were dismantled and
shipped elsewhere.  Most of the recipients, though, were other Allied
countries, but not the US itself (we just kept technological
secrets!).
