Dear pearlrivers, As for the building at 154 James Street, Morristown, New Jersey: According to the 2007 tax assessment, as recorded by the County of Morris Tax Board [1], the assessed value of the house is $245,000, and the value of the land is $213,700. The assessed total value of the house and the land is $458,700. As for the building at 9 Second Street, North Egremont, Massachusetts: According to the current year tax assessment, as recorded by the Egremont Board of Assessors [2], the assessed value of the house is $46,400, and the value of the land is $30,900. The assessed total value of the house and the land is $77,300. Hope this answers your question! You might also want to try www.zillow.com. This is a relatively new site that allegedly gives you an estimate of your (and your neighbor's) houses. J. |

I don't know about those states, but in California the assessed value of a house often has little to do with its market value. This is especially true if the house has been owned for a long time. For example, I've owned my house for a long time and it is assessed at only about 1/3 of its market value. |

Dear Scriptor,I'm really sorry but that assessed value isn't any good to me - now I know what it is. I need the true market value - can you get that for me? I don't want my ex to know I am doing this so I don't want to use Zillow - can you do it for me please? If I do do it, I will need the north Egremenont postcode - can you supply me with this if you used it before? Thanks |

Pearlrivers, I expect that the nearest estimate of market value can be found by talking to real estate agents in the two areas. If you don't want to do this, perhaps a G-A Researcher would take on the job. (I don't know, but, of course, any friend of yours might also help with this.) If you could supply contact information to agents, that would make the task much easier. IF there were certain ones that you wished not to be contacted, that would be important to know. That would be a new question for a somewhat higher price, also if the agents had to found first. You should specify how many agents' opinions you want, also something to consider when pricing such a question (see the FAQs). Regards, Myoarin |
