Question ID: 445760
Our 20-year old company will have to start to take part in e-auctions
within the next year as a vendor to corporates for large yearly or
bi-annual contracts. Our clients will be using procurement platforms
such as www.procuri.com, www.globalprocure.com, www.ariba.com to run
the auctions and our company will be competing against other companies
offering the same service to the client.

Question: I want a list of consultants/consultant companies or service
providers together with the services they provide that specialize in
strategic advice, consultancy and training to companies taking part in
this type of auction. The consultancy/advice being sought is on the
strategic approach/thinking to the auction from the vendor viewpoint.
Specific training in using the online tools/software during the
auction would be beneficial but secondary and not necessary to answer
the question. I have done no research on the subject but one type of
company that could offer a service would be PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
Companies should be based in the U.S. or U.K.

Hi!

Is this a good example of what you need?

Thanks.

Hello there,

No, I'm afraid not.

'komplot' provides auction management services for companies that want
to hold auctions. My company is going to take part in the auction.

Our client will offer at e-auction a contract for a year or 2 years.
We will bid on a list of pre-agreed services against other companies
and the one offering the best price/performance ratio will win.

The companies/consultants I am looking for will offer services to
companies taking part in the auction not companies giving/holding the
auction.

A sample of the advice we might get is that our company should not
lower our price during an auction until a 'certain set of conditions'
exist.

Let me know if the question needs any further clarification.

Thanks

awlith-ga,

Thanks for getting back to me...I'm glad to hear the link I provided was on target.

Turns out, though, that there aren't too many companies in this line
of work, at least not yet.

Many of the companies using reverse auctions for purchasing also
provide extensive training to potential suppliers.

In fact, most of the companies that provide and manage e-auction
services for vendors also provide training to suppliers as part of
their overall package.

You should check with the company/companies that will be initiating
their auctions as to whether they will offer training.

As for private consulting services that can assist you, I found a few,
in addition to the one already identified. They are:

http://www.auctusdev.com/raconsulting.html?OVRAW=reverse%20auction&OVKEY=reverse%20auction&OVMTC=standard
Auctus Development, Inc.

...Auctus Development provides auction strategy consulting services to
enterprises across the United States and around the world.

Beyond that, as I said, there isn't much that I could see. Hopefully,
between the four services identified, you'll be able to identify the
one that best suits your situation.

I trust this information fully answers your question.

However, please don't rate this answer until you have everything you
need. If there's anything more I can do for you, just post a Request
for Clarification, and I'm happy to assist you further.

Thanks for the answer, sorry about he delay in getting back I had a
temporary problem with my account.

I'll go through the companies you've given me.

Your conclusions that a large industry doesn?t exist yet of exactly
the type of service I'm looking saves me a lot of time. I'll follow up
your suggestion to contact the initiating companies to see what they
offer.

I do need something more - any reports, reference material, articles
etc. on the subject of vendor strategy in this situation. (Just let me
know if this is not possible and I'll rate the answer - I consider the
question answered as is and am very happy with what you given me).
