I would suggest you hire the services of a good customs broker or freight forwarder to help clear your goods through customs. They will help you (or do it on your behalf) complete and submit the necessary paperwork to customs (both US and Mexican). You'll want to minimize the duties you pay on your goods by determining if any of them are eligible for NAFTA under the Country of Origin rules. If you are manufacturing in Mexico, there are programs that may also help to reduce tariffs such as the Maquiladora Program. Certain US agencies require forms for certain imports. For example, FCC requires a certification for imports of radio frequency devices that cause harmful interference. Again, a good customs broker should be able to help with these issues. Also, you may consider applying for C-TPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism.) This program will reduce US Customs inspections at the border. |
