I am looking for information about the national market size of businesses that
provide volume programming of application-specific software into
semiconductor devices (i.e. Flash, EPROM, EEPROM, Microcontrollers,
and others).

Specifically, I would like to determine the following:

1.What is the size of the market for this industry in the U.S.(i.e.
what were the total revenues that companies which provide this type of
programming earned in recent years)?

2. Who are the typical customers for these businesses and what is a
typical order size?

3. Is most of this type of programming done by companies internally or
is it sent to a company that specializes in providing programming
services? Who were the market leaders in providing these services? Is
programming their primary business? If
you are able to obtain their revenues from programming, this would be very helpful.

Please cite sources for your answers. Please email me if you need any
clarification. I may request additional research help (for an
additional fee) from you once these questions are answered.

The companies I'm interested in do the following type of work:

They offer volume programming of a range of
semiconductor devices including EPROM, EEPROM, Flash,
Microcontrollers, PLD, CPLD, PAL, FPGA, and antifuse
FPGAs. The devices are programmed using universal
programming equipment (aka gang programmers) such as those
offered from BP Micro (http://www.bpmicro.com/) and Data
I/O (http://www.data-io.com/).

The universal programming equipment supports the
concurrent programming of multiple devices. The desired
software is loaded into the programming equipment and then
programmed into the semiconductor device in volume.

The universal programming equipment can handle a wide
range of micro-chips by the use of sockets or adapters. A
range of sockets is available for the various devices in
the marketplace. The socket for a particular device will
have the appropriate pin configuration for the device and
allows the devices to be connected to the programming
equipment. The sockets also support various package
types, including SOIC, TSOP, TSSOP, QFP, TQFP, PQFP, SSOP,
PGA, SIMM, PCMCIA, LGA, CSP, VSOP, PLCC, BGA, FBGA, BGA
and DIP.

I can provide you an excellent market survey of the programming
service market. I have over 15 years of direct experience in this
field and personal working relationship with programming equipment
vendors, programmable semiconductor manufactures and contract
programming centers. Send an email with your contact info to
pzdqa@yahoo.com and we can get together.
