Question ID: 445930
I just purchased a new computer with an ASUS A8N-SLI premium nForce4
motherboard. No operating system was loaded. After loading Windows
XP Pro (old disk), I loaded all the drivers, but the motherboard driver install
warned me that I would have to download Windows XP Service Pack 1 to
get a USB 2.0 driver. I don't want to download the service pack
because I have had too many issues in the past with microsoft updates.
Is there an independant USB 2.0 driver available, or any alternative
to using MS Service Pack 1? What are my options?

there are many posts around stating that Microsoft has pulled the
stand alone drivers from their website, however I did find one forum
post:

"Win XP USB 2.0 drivers are included in Service Pack 1.

Service Pack 1 which includes USB 2.0 support for Windows XP is
available at the Windows Update Site. (Actually it will try and
install SP2 I guess) The stand alone drivers have been pulled from
both the Windows Update and the Corporate Download sites but get them
here. (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=733dd867-56a0-4956-b7fe-e85b688b7f86&DisplayLang=en)

If you do install the update there when your done you still might have
to update the driver. Go to Device Manager and bring up the properties
of the Universal Serial Bus Controller. Then click on ?Update Driver?.
(System will automatically search USB2.0 driver and install it.)
Reboot."

http://www.chaintech.com.cn/download/bios/nVIDIA/nVIDIA%20USB2.0.rar
this is an offical usb2.0 drive for nvidia, first unrar the
package, then install the EXE file,if there are still some
problems,click "start"---"run"---input"devmgmt.msc ",find "Universal
Serial Bus controller?----"Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host
Controller?----and manual update it with the file"ousb2.inf" to
change it into "?nVIDIA USB2.0 Enhanced Host Controller?,and it will
be fine.If you had any questions in manual update the usb host
controller,you can ask here~~

cecil0576,
thanks so much for the driver. Turns out I am having problems
manually updating as the executable didn't do it. I have unrared the
package, and am trying to use the hardware update wizard, but can't
get windows to find the driver in the nVidia USB2.0 file I unrared.
Thanks for your help!

Hi,you used the hardware update wizard? I think you needn't do this
hehe, let me see...you have already unrarred the package, there is a
file called U2V2_1.EXE,run it,and it will be ok...(or the exe file
didn't work?)

The .exe didn't work.
That is why I tried to manually update but can't find any other way to
do it other than the wizard. :)
