I'm doing a monthly newsletter and I'm looking for a theme for march.
Could you please tell me about the following notable events in March
2006:

1) Birthdays and anniversary of famous people from throughout history
(example: Mozart's 250 birthday on January 26th)

2) Major sports, cultural, political events in Western Europe and the
United States (example: The 78th annual Academy awards on March 5)

3) Official "days of" (example: International Women's Day, World Aids Day, etc).

4) Significant holidays in Western Europe and the United States

5) Holidays from outside Western Europe and the United States that are
well known in these countries (Chinese New Year, Carnival in Brazil,
etc)

Thank you,

Chris

Hello hfire-ga,

Thank-you for your question.

There are many websites that allow you to search for the type of
information you desire but to go through each website and copy the
information for each day of March would generate more information than
we are able to place here in our reply boxes! The webmasters of each
site would also probably object to us copying and pasting so much
information from each of their sites also as the content is how they
drive visitors to their sites. Each of the question subsections are
also very broad and you perhaps know your newsletter readers better
than anyone so much of what we would answer would be of little use.

I would therefore like to give you a brief summary of some of the best
websites to help you gather this information as an answer.

"Welcome to FamousBirthdays.com. Who else was born on your birthday?"
http://www.famousbirthdays.com/mar.html

"This website is one of the the largest (and certainly the most
creative) Born On This Day resource on the Internet. Search 80,000
birthdates. Look up 1,000 famous people and their inspirational
quotations. Browse 800 Famous Creative Women born on this day in
history."
http://born-on-this-day.com/

"Get to know what happened on any calendar day in History.
ThisDayThatYear.com gives you the complete list of Birthday's of Great
Personalities, Actors, Actresses, Directors, Producers, Models,
Comedians, Singers, Composers, Sport Stars, Golf Players, Tennis
Players, Historical Events, Scientific Events and past Sporting Events
that gained prominence in History."
http://www.thisdaythatyear.com/index.htm

From the TV History Channel (simply alter the day to the dates in
March to discover the information you need).
http://www.historychannel.com/today/

"Historic Events & Birthdates that occurred on a SELECTED day of the year."
http://www.scopesys.com/anyday/

"On This Day is a showcase of some of the most significant as well as
some of the quirkier stories broadcast by BBC News since 1950 and now
including a new World War II section. We intend to continue adding
stories over the coming years so you will always be able to find
something fresh on the site. You will probably enter the site via the
front page. This will always be today?s date and will offer a choice
of reports drawn from the years 1950-2002 and 1939-45."

Events from Microsoft's Encarta Encyclopedia:
http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/features/onthisday.aspx

My personal favourite (and probably the most geared to all the
information you require):
http://www.reference.com/thisday/index.html?m=3&d=1

Please let me know if this information is sufficent for your answer.
Should you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to
ask for clarification.

hfire-ga,

You've been given a lot of great links already (above), but you can
probably find just about everything you need at a single site:

http://www.datedex.com/results.asp

Many of the events listed here already run into March, and by clicking
on individual categories (e.g. Birthdays) you'll get to see a much
longer list, that covers the next few months.

Note that you can also incorporate DateDex information directly to
your website, by clicking on the "DateDex content on your site"
option:

http://www.datedex.com/iw/IWInfo.asp

Let me know if this meets your needs.

You could also access: wikipedia march
and then click on each day of the calendar for information about what
has occurred on every date.
