The story involved several young squirrels (or maybe they were
chipmunks), two or three of them. They took a train ride to a fair,
and kept asking the Conductor - "Is this our stop?" Finally they
arrived at the fair and played games, saw things, ate peppermint stick
candy, and rode the train home. The conductor had to wake them up to
let them off at their stop.

I remember the story but not the title; the book was at my
grandmother's house growing up, so it's at least 30-40 years old,
probably more. I would desperately like to identify the book so I can
read it to my son.

Hi rtheath,

Two possibilities:

The Squirrel Twins' Ride, by Duncan Jury, (©1968):
http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?ph=2&bi=330749506

The Animal's Train Ride, by Miriam Clark Potter, (©1957):
http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?ph=2&bi=338251152

Do you remember the size of the book? For example, little like an Elf
Book, or larger like a Little Golden Book, or was it bigger? Are the
animals dressed in clothes?

hummer

I am pretty sure that The Squirrel Twins Ride is it! I saw the cover
photo and it struck a chord in my memory - haven't seen those little
squirrels in probably 30 years. I will check a little closer to be
sure, but I'm pretty confident we have a winner (Ding Ding Ding Ding
Ding!).

I'll check the book content and get you paid if that's indeed it.

Thank you!!
Randy

Hi Randy,

Oh good, that's neat. Following is the best description that I've been
able to find (no mention of going to a fair).

"CHILDREN STORY: adventures of two young squirrels, Chipper and
Chatter on their train adventure to visit their Aunt Maria."
http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=330749506

There aren't alot available for sale but there are a few to choose from.

I hope it's it!

Hi Randy,

Have you been able to determine if "The Squirrel Twins Ride" is it or
do we need to go back to the drawing board?

Happy New Year!

Hummer - I was able to purchase the book online - yes, it was the book
I was thinking of, though it appears I was combining two books in my
head. The two squirrels do go visit Aunt Maria, not to the fair. The
fair book must be a different one.
