This started a few days ago. When i click on IE it takes 1-2 minutes to open (this happens everytime i try to open an IE window), and when i try to open a link in a new window or click on a link that's supposed to open in a new window nothing shows up and the window freezes, i restarted my computer in safe-mode and ran a full system scan with NAV and SS&D and Ad-aware but nothing was found,i also reinstalled IE but nothing happened. Maybe it's not a virus, maybe i did something that caused this to happen like deleting a file or doing something to the registry or something but i can't remember. I was going to do a System Restore but i didn't find any restore points. I searched everywhere and tried different things to fix it but still no luck. I have to fix this problem because i don't want to use Netscape forever or reformat my hard drive. |

Make sure the definitions to those programs are updated. Also make sure you run a full scan with all of them. It is possible but not likely a file you deleted, or a regestry entry could do this. That would usaly come up with a "file could not be found" error. A final thing you might want to check is under S&D advanced mode -> tools -> active X if there are any destructive items (these may be dificult to tell) also check under BHOs. |

Try turning off your anti-virus program. It may be causing this. If it helps, check your anti-virus settings or contact the anti-virus software manufacturer. |

If you don?t come up with the solution, you could switch to Firefox. Only a few megs in size and free. Slightly more functional than IE. If you do install it though, make sure your firewall (if you have one) doesn?t block it. Several Google bods recommended Firefox quite recently. Best |

Even though you ran spybot and adaware I would still suspect spyware/adware, try hyjackthis, take a look at this forum read the "sticky" threads at the top, they will tell you where to get hyjackthis and how to proceed, be sure to follow these instructions before posting a hyjackthis log for review by the forum. Chris. |

I had a similar problem to this. It turns out it was the Cisco VPN software. I uninstalled the Cisco software and downloaded and installed the latest version. You may also want to go into your Internet Options and under the Advanced tab click the "Restore Defaults" button and under the Programs tab click "Reset Web Settings." Then flush your history and cache. Finally, if you haven't done so already, upgrade to XP Service Pack 2 if running XP or reinstall IE6 if you are running anything else. Do you have a list of hardware installed or a brand/model of computer you can share? |

as said before, it sounds like a possible spyware problem. I lot of spyware can go unnoticed with just adaware or spybot. Please download hijackthis, found here: http://www.spychecker.com/download/download_hijackthis.html and post it's log and i can tell you what to remove (save the log file and just copy and paste it here for me). Outside that, what version of windows are you running? If removing the spyware does not work, we can completely remove every component of IE and do a complete reinstall on windows 95, 98, and ME. But i would like to see your hijackthis log first. Thanks, Aaron |

I don't use IE haven't done in years because I simply do not like it. You could try using a multitab browser such as Maxthon (formaly MYIE), Firefox or a new one to the market which is English developed in the Uk that is called Deepnet explorer which as a built in news reader and P2P. I cannot advise you how to fix your M$ IE problem because win 98 killed 3 of my computers, I am happy to reinstall XP every 4 weeks if needed 9luckily atm I don't need to) because I used to due to all major problems and I am not alone, tech support cannot even find the cause of these problems and I am no newbie to computers. You may want to consider changign OS also why not try linux as a second OS or buy a Mac as a second computer, I know I will once I can afford to invest in one. |

Also try these web links to free spyware removers http://www.javacoolsoftware.com http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware They work well, while you are at it try deleting all Browser Helper Objects if all else fails it will do no harm and remember to do virus scans. |

If those don't work (although both PC Bug Doctor are not free to fix errors) try using an evaluation of CacheBoost it defrgs RAM memory without slowing down your PC and as i remember when i used to use IE it used to eat up a lot of RAM. I hope it helps. http://www.systweak.com |

If you are able to open Internet explorer. click on Tools (Menu) ->Internet Options->Advanced->(Uncheck)Enable Third party browser extensions(requires restart). Close everything start again and see if it fixes. If it fixes then its a problem with some program that starts with IE. |

I have a similar problem that I am trying to fix but have not done so yet. As a temporary work around, when you first open IE browser window, hold the CTRL key and press the N key to open a new window. From this new window, the SHIFT + Left Mouse Click should open new browser windows. All functions of this new browser window should work also. Email me if you get a fix for the initial browser window. I have upgraded from IE 5.5 to IE6 and it did not fix the problem. So I reverted to IE 5.5 and it still does this. I even copied the Iexplorer registry settings ( under HKLM and HKCU from another computer that does not have the problem, and this did not fix it. |

HERE IS THE FIX !!!! Search for a file named gzx2024.dll in the /windows/system folder and rename it to gzx2024.lld. You may have to do the renaming from the DOS prompt or safe mode. Restart Windows and try it! I could not find out the purpose or source for this file, but it worked for me on my problem that I described in my earlier post here. |
