Hello, I would like to send someone a small amount of money ($50) over
the internet. Westernunion.com charges an $18 fee, while Paypal will
only let me do this if I give them my bank account information, which
I don't feel comfortable doing. Is there some other service that will
let me send money out of a debit card/credit card account with a fee
under $10? Thank you.

I am posting this as a RQC in case you reject PayPal entirely - you
have been misinformed about PayPal. If you accept this as an answer
just let me know and I will post it as such.

Hi, thank you for bringing your question to Google Answers.

Actually the answer is to use PayPal.

It is a misconception that you must give them bank account information.

That is one way to set up an account and has some advantages but is
not the only way.

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr

You do have to provide a valid home phone number.

Sure, I'll accept that -- how would I set up a Paypal account as you suggest?

Just go to www.paypal.com and click on Send Money or Join Now

If you click on Send Money you will go to a simple page which offers a
demo, check that out first.

To be completely safe start directly at www.paypal.com but when you
hear about phishing schemes, they don't involve URLs you enter
yourself such as the one below, they are hyperlinks which usually
pretend to be one link but are actually another.

Or, just go to
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_registration-run
You want a "personal account."

You will need to identify yourself and provide a valid email address.

The "https" designation indicates a secure server.

I just ran through that method again and it doesn't ask for a bank account.

PayPal WILL ask for a bank account for various purposes but it isn't
required for most purposes.

No need to reply.

Thank you for the nice rating.

I use PayPal every day for nearly 30 Web sites and an eBay store and I
have found them to be very dependable.

Moneygram can be used for transactions. The money arrives at its
destination within 10 mins of sending. It can involve going to a
designated store to send and receive the money. Alternatively it can
be done online via credit card payment. Unsure of current fees
involved but last year it was about $6
