"Digital Television Transition Act of 2005" Became Public Law No:
109-171 as part of an omnibus package of bills signed February 1,
2006. I would like to receive a concise outline of the original
bill(s) as introduced, when they were introduced, what commitees they
went through and what opposition the bill faced. I have looked on
Thomas (Library of Congress site) and found a lot if information about
the final bill, but I understand that this bill has been kicked around
for three years before passage. I am just looking for a list,
bullet-points showing the time-line and major players involved to give
me a starting point for further research- not a major opus. Figure on
about 2-3 pages total. I need this answer right away. |

Redshark66,
I believe I located a document that will meet your requirements.
http://www.opencrs.com/rpts/RL31260_20050622.pdf
Check out the sections entitled, ?Activities in the 108th Congress?
and ?Activities in the 109th Congress? in this report (Page 30).
and
Legislation in the 108th and 109th Congresses Related to Digital Television
(Page 38).
Please let me know if this is the kind of information you need or if
you're looking for something different.
Thank you,
Bobbie7

Thank you for your prompt response and good initial link. I think
that the materials shown would be a good back-up, but what I would
like is more concise and bulletized summaries. No problem with the
basic data. I need sort of an idiots guide to the history of the
bill.

Dear Redshark66,
Yes, it helped to clarify exacly what you want; however I will have to
pass. I am not that familiar with The Digital Television Transition
Act to provide you with a concise and bulletized summary.
The question is still open and hopefully another researcher will
answer your question.
Sincerely,
Bobbie7
