I have always enjoyed baking, wanting to get into the Donut shop
business, does anyone have any input concerning how to get into the
donut shop business, and is it a profitable business to get into? what
might be some of the qualifications in being in the business? Krispy
Kreme is not doing so well, does that mean american are eating less
donuts due to the Atkins Diet hype, or donuts will continue to do well
after the fad has faded? where do I find information concerning donut
shop businesses for sale?any input is appreciated.

Sorry to tell you that it is almost impossible to turn your hobby into
a profitable business.

Enjoying baking would not help you to run a Donut shop at all.

As a owner of a business, you have to hire a good baker,
In case you enjoy baking, you should find a suitable employment at any
bakery shop or Donut shop.

Still you are interested in Donut & Coffee business, why don't you pay
visits to every and each Donut shops run by about 30km around your
area.

I hope they are willing to help you and make you be very happy.

Mary Christmas and Happy new year!

I have known two people who ran small donut shops. Both of these
people worked long hours and lost money.

If you have a single-product shop such as doughnuts then you will
always be vulnerable to market trends. And I think doughnuts are
something of a commodity, low-price low-profit high turnover
operation. There's not a lot of baking involved in making them. If you
enjoy baking then there is probably a better market for real
speciality breads, pastries and cakes. What about making gluten free
breads, or glazed decorative breads for religious festivals ...
Probably more satisfying.

Is there any future in Donut business?

Long ago, there were quite a few Contry Style Donut Shops in town and
sometime ago, they changed their name to just Country Style by taking
away the word of "DONUT".

Also, Tim Hortons was Tim Horton's Donut & Coffee.

As you well aware of the fact, Donut is considered as a least
expensive fast food. You can buy one whole dozen of donuts at the
price of a hamburher.

Since late 80's, the consumers have become more health-oriented, so
called unhealty food like Fish & Chips, Pizza and donut businesses
have been shrinking.

So, if you want to jump in to the Food business, wht don't you
consider the Sushi or Submarine shop.

Recently, I noticed many Quizno's Sub opened new locations.

Also, for Franchised business, you can look up the Internet site
www.franchise.com.

Good luck!

I sympathize with your problem of changing a hobby to a job. I would
suggest one of these two things:

1. Baking donuts in your spare time and selling them to a local store.
You could also arrange for them to be sold at one or more local pool's
concession stand during summer.

2. As has been suggested, seeking employment in a good bakery.

You might consider a bagel shop instead. Bagels seem to be very
popular these days, especially with folks who are on low-fat diets.

Donuts are the breakfast of champions (but that may be a biased
opinion on my part).

The only donuts I eat are deep-fried.....

Anyway,....I seem to recall that business week has an article about
Krispy Kream and their recent poor performance...their conclusion was
that KK was mismanaged,...not a victim of the low-carb diet. If
low-carb was truely the cause, we would also expect to see Panera
Bread, Einstein Bagel, etc... to be in finanical trouble also...

...just something to think about.

even developing countries where these kind of shops by foreigners do
well..like india...and towns like delhi, jaiur, calcutt etc in india
