I am looking for network diagram, switch/router recommendations, IP address assigment scheme, configuration steps for a LAN which has following characteristics: 1. 2 LINUX boxes. 2. 2 window boxes. 3. All the four boxes are on the same LAN. 4. Two broadband connections. Lets say cable and DSL. (both have their own modem and ethernet jack). [actually one has USB female interface]. Lets call these broadbands B1 and B2. ============================================ The boxes on the LAN need to reach two sets of remote sites. Site A: A site with 2 to 4 fix IP addresses. you could assume X.Y.Z.1 through X.Y.Z.4 Site B: rest of the internet ============================= All traffic for A needs to be routed over B1. All traffic for B needs to be routed over B2. ============================= If B1 goes down then all traffic to A should fall over to B2. ============================ The fail over should not require a manual step. =========================== I am looking for all the steps/hardware required to set this up. Cost is constraint - so would like to use inexpensive but reliable solution. =========================== thanks Shivank |

Shivankz, Sorry a couple of questions, but I think what you're trying to do should be able to be done using a couple of quite cheap off the shelf routers! I assume that you're not using any servers on your network? You have your internet connections plugged into USB ports on two of your computers? SL |

SL, Currently I have DSL (B1) plugged into one window box (ethernet port). The second internet connection (B2) is plugged into another window box in its USB port. The two boxes are not currently connected. I wish to put these two on the LAN along with two linux boxes as described in my requirements. Sanjay |
