Hello.

I am a web designer whose need general data on Internet's user
behaviour and the hardware and software they use, so I could make a
better designing decision.

I am looking for Internet statistics on users usage.

The kind of data I am looking for is, for instance, percentage of the
kind of browser used by country, by age, by gender. The final user
screen resolution again by multiple different criterias, etc.

It would be great if I could find that kind of data by user search
submition, let say that I have to design a website for dentists. For
me, to do a better design, it would be great if I could know what
resolution screen and browser have those people that are actually
looking for a dentist.

The data should be very detailed to also give me details like the
user's browser JavaScript or Flash capabilities, etc.

The data should be updated. Data for the year 2004 is not valid since
Internet is a fast growing area.

I guess that this kind of data won't be free, but who knows, you could
point me to some free source, which I will really apreciate.

I would like to clarify that I am not looking for those services or
software that will give me this information about my own visitors, I
don't need any of those tools that I have to instal in my server to
get data from my own users. I am looking for general data for Internet
users. Also, data from an specific company based on their users is not
valid since that specific company may be focused on technical content
so they will mainly have technical visitor which will give me a false
idea of the web trend.

Thank you very much.

davidandrew...

I'm not sure you'll find statistics as specific as you'd
like, but some of the best and most updated stats are
available from the following:

W3 Schools Statistics for browsers, OS, color depth, etc:
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

Chuck Upsdell?s Browser, Resolution, and Colour-Depth Trends:
http://www.upsdell.com/BrowserNews/stat_trends.htm

Or, you can build your own stats by putting a counter on
the sites you design:

"Complete stats with hits per hour/day/month, operating system,
browser, domain, screen resolution, color depth, search engine
referrers, five configurable domains, five configurable referrers,
visitors with Java enabled, stats optional public or private."

Thank you sublime1-qa.

Those are the data I already knew. You see, your link to
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp has a paragraph
that reads "Why so high Firefox figures?". That's exactly what I want
to avoid. I may be in a unrealizable task, at least I pay a lot of
money to companies like www.netrating.com or www.websidestory.com to
conduct a marketing research.

I was suggesting something like data by search submition, I guess that
only search engines can do that since they have the user, the search
submition string and all the information they get from the user but so
far I haven't hear of any service like that.

If any of you know of such service I will really grateful.

Thanks for your help.
