I am trying to find a recording of a piece I heard at a SF
Symphony/Chorus performance last Sunday. It was a blending of two
songs: "The Rose" and "Lo How a Rose e'er blooming. A choir sang the
hymn Lo How a Rose e'er Blooming mixed with a soloist who sang the
rose. Is there a
recording of this? How do I get it?

Regarding the song "The Rose" that was sung, was this the popular song
that begins "Some say love, it is a river that drowns the tender
reed"?

If "The Rose" is indeed the pop song mentioned above, which was
written by Amanda McBroom and made famous by Bette Midler, I have
found two Christmas-themed CDs (both by the same choral group) which
include a blending of this song with "Lo, How a Rose." However, I
doubt that this is the same choir that performed in San Francisco.

Please let me know if information about these CDs would be a
satisfactory answer to your question.

If the song "The Rose" in the medley is not the pop song that I
described above, it would be very helpful if you could remember some
of the lyrics of the song you heard.

Yes, this is exactly what I am looking for. I am looking for any
recording. It doesn't have to be by the SF Symphony. Can you please
give me the recording details so that I can order/buy it?

Thanks!!!

Thanks for getting back to me. Before posting an answer, I wanted to
make sure that "The Rose" in question was the pop song rather than
something else.

You will find a medley blend of "The Rose" and "Lo, How a Rose" on
these two Christmas CDs which feature the choir of Conspirare:

"Christmas at the Carillon 1999
This CD was recorded live at The Carillon and First English Lutheran
Church in Austin, Texas December 16-19, 1999. Additional musical
arrangements and piano/vocal performances by Craig Hella Johnson...

"7. Lo How A Rose/The Rose (16th Century/Amanda McBroom)"

Conspirare: Christmas at the Carillon 1999

"Christmas at the Carillon 2001
This CD was recorded live at The Carillon and First English Lutheran
Church in Austin, Texas December 6-8, 2001. Additional musical
arrangements and piano/vocal performances by Craig Hella Johnson...

23. Lo How A Rose/The Rose (Traditional/McBroom)"

Conspirare: Christmas at the Carillon 2001
http://www.conspirare.org/CD-2001.htm

Information on purchasing Conspirare CDs may be found here:

I hope you will enjoy Conspirare as much as I do! If anything I've
said is unclear or incomplete, please request clarification; I'll be
glad to offer further assistance before you rate my answer.

Best regards,
