I'm writing a graduate thesis on Oscar Lewis's "culture of poverty" and I'm looking for information on the popularity of a particular book from the period. Specifically, I'm interested in the following: (1) How many copies of Michael Harrington's The Other America were sold between its publication in 1962 and 1970. (2) When The Other America officially became a "best seller." (I believe the answer is some time in 1964.) Note: If it's difficult to discern how many copies were sold during a particular period ('62-'70), I would still be interested in knowing how many books have been sold to date. |
