I use Chase visa - when I download my statement as a cvs file I get
something that looks like this
colmun A        colmun B    colmun C
6/12/2004	-50	OVERTURE/GOTO.COM         Misc. Svcs.
6/14/2004	-37.29	VERIZON INTERNET SOL      Misc. Svcs.
6/14/2004	-159.69	STAPLES #990              Retail

I use quickbooks as my accounting software

the 2 problems I have are
1 - how do I map this excel so I can import it
2 - notice colmun C - the name of the merchent and the category are
both in the same field - how can I break them into 2 fields so it is
imported proprly

Can you try to open it by excel and use text to columns function to
split them into 2 or more columns
