I am interested to know if there are any articles published on Alfa
156 2001 regarding blown engines and Alfa refusing to except
responsibility? My engine recently blew 2 months out of warranty thus
the interest.

How many miles did it have when the engine "blew" and was it caused by
a timing belt failure.

44,000km, (approx 30 000 miles) 3 of the 4 master bearings went.
According to Alfa's independant assesment the car had NO oil at some
stage over the last 4 months. I know for a fact the car has never ever
had no oil thus the interest in whether there are other people that
have experienced similar issues with this particular model.

I found the following reference to your problem:

http://www.carsurvey.org/review_68574.html

3 of the 4 master bearing went and engine has to be replaced.
I was advised by Alfa that they will not replace the engine. I was
told that the car at some point was low on oil. I have also done some
research and discovered that I am not the only one to have had this
problem. If you have had similiar problems, please email me
ltberks@yahoo.com.

If this is not you, then at least one other person has suffered your
problem. I e-mailed this person and have not received a reply.

I was searching the internet to see if there were any other people
with issues on their Alfa Romeo?s

I have a 39,000mile 156 Sportwagon 2001 who has just blown up on me
over xmas. Won?t bore you with the details (as I am not an engine
expert) but basically the Con Rod has blown through the bottom of the
engine. I have just been told today that Alfa are claiming no
responsibility and the engine ?at sometime was starved of oil?. I
have been refused a ?goodwill? gesture by Alfa.

Knowing 156?s drink oil I have kept on top of the oil level and I know
this was not true.

Still waiting for a successful outcome but I have been quoted £4150
for the new engine, oil filter etc.

If there are any more of us out there then let me know. Have you had
e-mails from anyone else?

I am in the NW of England are you in the UK?
