Recently, in the UK, a book was published that revealed who was making
what for whom. Who makes cornflakes for the big retailers? Who
suppliers own-label beans etc. What was the book called, and just to
make it easier for me, what's it's ISBN?

Could you be thinking of "Shopped: The Shocking Power of British Supermarkets"?
http://www.whsmith.co.uk/whs/go.asp?isbn=0007158041&DB=220

The focus of the book is not exclusively "who makes what for whom,"
but that topic appears to be covered to some extent.

Let me know if this sounds like the right book.

Hi Juggler, Thanks for the suggestion. No, it's not this one. I'm told
it was late last year and was subject to a challenge by one big chain.
Sorry, but good try so far! Dave.

Hi Juggler and Rainbow, Your answers are helpful and I'm grateful for
them, Thank You. I do think that Videoga's is the book that I was
looking for. It doesn't match on all points, but the date, the content
and the description look like it will be "the one". So Vid, (if I may
call you that), put it in as an answer. Cheers until the next time
guys (and gals), I have some more questions being readied even as I
write this! Cheers, Dave.

Hi Dave,

Since videoga-ga is not a Researcher, he/she cannot "answer" your
question. You can tell a Researcher by the name being a clickable
link. Since a Commenter has provided the information you need, you may
want to close your question

Best regards,
Rainbow

Your book might be the following, which I found on Amazon and elsewhere.
Photographs seem to indicate that the title is "Supermarket Own Brand Guide".

"Own Brand Food and Drink: How to Make the Best Choices for Your Family"

Martin Isark

Synopsis
For anyone who buys own-brand food and wine from supermarkets, and who
wants to choose the best products in terms of taste, health, and value
for money, this book lists over 2,500 commonly purchased products and
rates them on quality and price. The booming sector of the own-branded
label market continues to grow and this can be a minefield for the
consumer. Martin Isark has the perfect solution with this new guide
that tells the supermarket brand buyer how to choose between the vast
range of brands that exist today. This book is divided into
twenty-three sections and each includes between five and fifteen core
products. The leading consumer brand name is included as a control and
then the products are compared by supermarket own label. There are ten
supermarkets in total, but not every product will have an own-label
from each supermarket. The listings include a tasting note from the
author and score based on quality and value for money, plus the normal
retail price and weight. Useful consumer health information (e.g.
salt, sugar, fat, RDA, vitamin content, caffeine, alcohol, plus vegan
and coeliacs information) is also featured throughout the book.

Even if this is wrong, it hasn't cost you anything!

Best wishes,

Apologies to juggler-ga, rainbow-ga and other genuine researchers for
unexpectedly spoiling this one. I was sure that this would not be the
right title, as it was not too hard to find. Perhaps most researchers
are in the USA rather than the UK which must make a difference.

I suppose if oraccomp-ga would like to pay someone $5, perhaps he/she
could ask someone to supply my comment as the answer and then accept
it!?

Anyway, enjoy the book.
