According to a testimony submitted to Senator Paul Sarbanes (D-Md),
chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban
Affairs, by the Appraisal Institute on August 16, 2001, there were
more than 80,000 state licensed and certified real estate appraisers
in the United States.
?The testimony contended these "evaluations" that estimate the value
of real property are actually "appraisals," and should be performed by
appraisers who adhere to uniform standards. Presently, more than
80,000 state licensed and certified real estate appraisers are
available throughout the nation to perform appraisal assignments for
federally insured financial institutions.?
