I have a Korg PXR4 that I am figuring out bit by bit. The snag comes
in in trying to convert the MPEG 2 files that it transfers to my
computer. If you (Ms or Mr research person) click on the above link
(AT TOP OF PAGE) you can find the link that is SUPPOSSED to tell you
how to do this.

But its ALL GOOD until part three where a bunch of gaps appear in
the picture . On my computer, the top two are okay but the third
description has holes and never really makes sense to me. The part
where the screen says: "NULLSOFT DISKWRITER PLUG IN" ETC and at this
point it just stops being linear. At the end it says (CUT AND PASTED)
The file will be opened in Winamp. You won't be able to hear anything,
but the player will run through the file, converting it to the wav
format at several times normal speed. SAY WHAT???? I have no idea what
this means.

I can't figure out HOW to get to the next step!

If you can help me figure out HOW to get the files that wind up on my
computer to play on my MP3 player OR are "RIP-ABLE" so that I can burn
a CD-R Disc there is 25 bucks in it.

Its worth it to me because every other approach I tried to find how
to do this is WAY more expensive than 25 bucks.

Any takers? Can anyone go to this site, run through it and guide me to
the PAY OFF???

I SHOULD HAVE ADDED: THERE MAY BE ( AND LIKELY IS) ANOTHER WAY BESIDES
THE WINAMP METHOD TO CONVERT MPEG LEVEL 2 TO WAVE OR MP3. IF YOU CAN
TELL ME ANOTHER WAY OTHER THAN THE WINAMP MESS PLEASE... WHATEVER
WORKS!!!

There are a bunch of converters out there which will convert
mp2 to mp3, with an average cost of around $25-30, many of
which are free to download and try before you register them.

If you'd rather not pay for one, and want to continue trying
to use Winamp, I can walk you through it, but you'll need to
be more specific about precisely where you're getting hung up.

The instructions on the page you cited seem clear to me. If
you don't have the Diskwriter plugin, you need to click the
link in the dialog window and get it. Once you have it, you
need to select the plugin, click on configure, select an
output directory, choose the output format for the .wav file,
and go to step 4, which I'll edit a bit for ease of use:

"If you don't usually use Winamp to listen to mp2 files, you
need to make sure that the files open up in Winamp so that
they can be converted. In Windows [Explorer], highlight an
mp2 file that you want to convert into the wav format, hold
down the shift key and right-click. Select "Open wIth..."
[from the resulting context menu] and scroll down the list
in the resulting dialog window, which is pictured] until you
see Winamp. Highlight it and click "OK". The file will be
opened in Winamp. You won't be able to hear anything, but
the player will run through the file, converting it to the
wav format at several times normal speed."

Then look in the output directory you selected when configuring
the plugin, above. You should find a .wav file, when Winamp is
done with the conversion.

As the page suggests, you can then use Cool Edit to edit the
file, should you wish, and a freeware converter to convert it
from a wav file to an mp3 file. Actually, you can use the
Microsoft Sound Recorder that comes with Windows to convert
wav to mp3 files.

Let me know if this helps, or what further information you
need to constitute an answer.
