Hello,
I need to find out if there is an easy way to hide a URL hyperlink in
a PDF document (so that the actual URL address is not displayed when
you hover over the link).

Have you tried this?

Right click the link and choose "Hyperlink," then "Remove Hyperlink."

Now, it should appear as normal text and nothing should happen when
you hover, and it should not be clickable.

Let me know..

Hi Cynthia,
I would like to make the link where it IS clickable. I just don't want
to show the URL address during a mouseover (for affiliate marketing
purposes). BTW I'm using OpenOffice 2.0 to make the PDF's as that's
all I can afford. I was hoping someone knew of a standalone app that
could do what I'm trying to do or maybe a javascript. Thanks...

Have you considered using a tool like snipurl to make an intermediate
url you can link to without it showing the final url:

http://snipurl.com/

Hi Pafalafa,
Thanks for the response. I checked out SnipURL - useful program but
not really what I'm looking for. If I used their service I would have
to use the 'snipurl' as part of my link (not very professional looking
IMO). Plus if they ever stopped their service then the links in my
ebook wouldn't work.

A good example of what I'd like to do (if possible) is..
Say I have a hyperlink that I want to be in my ebook where the URL is
www.acmewidgets.com/product216/affiliateID=38639
Even though I want the hyperlink to go to the above address, what I'd
like the tool tip to display is either nothing, or something more
like...
www.acmewidgets.com/
This is easy to do with a HTML file, but I'm trying to figure out if
it's possible with a PDF file.

Thanks again everyone...
