I am looking for a cool turn based game that I can play with my
brother. I looked into Play By Email (PBE) games and they are looking
pretty lame. We want to find something cool like warcraft or starcraft
but even more recent. Something that actually needs and uses a
graphics card. We play games like unreal tournament and half life when
we can find time to meet together but with our growing hectic lives we
are out of sync. So, would be cool to load up the game, make your turn
and email the move to him. Not interested in chess or text-only games
that I've found so far. Can anybody help?

A good turn-based PBEM game is Laser Squad Nemesis. It was developed
by the makers of X-COM and Magic & Mayhem, with PBEM play specifically
in mind. It is basically very similar in mechanics to X-COM's tactical
battles. There is a demo, but the full version is not free.
