We are looking for the best places to retire on a Federal pension -
states and locations that allow us to keep most of our retirement
income.  We are on the "old" CSRS system which means we do not get
Social Security.  The place we want to go must have a very high median
education level, be small to mid-size with mushroom hunting foray
ability within an hour of where we live.  Great medical care too.  The
location would have a high level of public transportation and be bike
and pedestrian friendly.  We're Internet dependent. We are
Midwesterners transplanted to the East coast.  We prefer the Midwest
or West.  A bonus will be given for a thoroughly researched answer.
