My parents honeymooned in 1947 at the Somerset (SP?) Lodge in
Wisconsin. We have no further details. I'd like to find the
location, exact name and links to further information about the place. |

Hi jpots,
I spoke to a very nice lady at the Somerset Wisconsin Public Library.
At the time I talked with her, the libary was closed, but she said
there is a reference book published in 1956 which documents history of
the area from 1900 -1950. She'll try to find information there, and
also will "ask around among the people she knows" to find out more.
She didn't recall anything ever called Somerset Lodge, however don't
give up hope. She will be emailing me sometime this week with what
she finds, and I'll post here with that information if it's available.
Best regards,

Hi jpots,
This is the email I received from the librarian.
"Hello,
I?ve just gotten off the phone with a 95-year-old woman who has lived
here her entire life and has a mind that?s about as good as they get.
She said she doesn?t remember a place called ?The Somerset Lodge? but
asked if the questioner might have been referring to ?The Whispering
Pines?. The Whispering Pines was a few cabins?I guess?about 2 miles
north of the village of Somerset, right on the Apple River. It?s no
longer there. In fact, the area where it was located is now a housing
development. The owner, I?m told, was Fred Belisle but all of his
family has left the area. I?m putting out feelers for anyone with
information/photos of it.
I called another old timer who corroborated the first person?s
recollections and doesn?t know of any other place around here that
could have been called a ?lodge?. This is not resort country.
I wish I had definitive information but this does appear to be the
only ?lodge? in the area at that time.
Let me know if you?d like me to pursue this further. I?d be happy to.
(name of librarian)"
If you feel we're on the right track please post a clarification
request asking me to post in the answer box.
Best regards,

My parents were married in Chicago. The town of Somerset is further
away than they had remembered going. I don't believe this was in Door
County.

There is a Somerset Lodge in southern Illinois (also a bit of a hike
from Chicago). Might this be the one...?

I spoke with my elderly parents further today. Having married in
Chicago, my parents said they took the train to perhaps the Lake
Geneva area. They cannot quite remember. I appreciate any
assistance. What a treat it would be to find this place that holds
sweet memories for them.
