Sorry, I wasn't clear.  My problem is I don't know the issue the
article was in.  I think Scientific American offered an index on CD
some years back; I'll check with the local library to see if they have
it (we just moved, so I'm not up on what's available here.

The trick is to find the exact citation of the article.  Once that is
known then you can request of photocopy of the article through your
local libraries interlibrary loan service.  Many libraries own
"Scientific American" back to the beginning so I don't think it would
be a problem once you know the exact issue it was in.
