Alexa <http://www.alexa.com> stores that sot of information and has a
regularly-updated top-500 webpage list
(<http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_500>). If you do some sleuthing on
that site you may find what you're looking for (you'll certainly find
the most-visited sites of today).

And there isn't *really* a "first day of the internet." That depends
on how you define "internet" - for more information on the first days
of the 'net you can read
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Internet>. If you need to
see the 'net as it was back in the day, you can use the Internet
Archive Wayback Machine at <http://www.archive.org>. Enter a website
in the search bar and it'll give you a list of all of the pages that
it has in its archives.
