Where's the best place to begin searching for a new website designer,
or does the problem, below, have a solution elsewhere? I have had my
own website for over 3 years, still exists today, but my website
designer has left the field for other pursuits. The site is
two-way-television.com. I live in the northern suburbs of Philadelphia,
Pa. The problem is lack of contact between visitors to my website and
myself. That is to say that, although there is a contact link, ?Ask a
Question? on the home page, and although Urchin, the company gathering
statistics, records 45,426 visitors to my site in 2005 (124 visitors a
day is the listed average) I have had 4 messages from visitors in that
time, and none in 2006 when Urchin now records an average of close to
300 visitors a day on this EarthLink WebHosting Account. I am the
inventor of a remote control that allows the user to dial phone
numbers while watching TV, in addition to the normal channel-changing
functions. I do not take credit card info. The site exists solely
today to spread the word about ?The Next Step for Television.? Is
there a glitch in the website design or something else amiss? I would
like to communicate with visitors to my site & receive their feedback,
good and bad. Great inventions, like great books and great cooking
recipes, do not take place in a vacuum. Overall, I am happy with the
look of the site & have even complimented my website designer on a job
well done. Understand that I am mostly looking for any information
that could expand the ring of darkness surrounding me on this subject. |

potpie-ga,
I used the contact form at your site to send a message to you. It
appeared to work OK, and then returned me to your home page.
Let me know if you receive it.

I am responding to a message from pafalafa-ga that he used the contact
link on my website to send a message to me. I did not receive it. I
have a strong sense that something is amiss, considering the thousands
of visitors to my site over the last 3 years. In other words, the
numbers suggest I should have received far more messages than the
handful I have received. I am not finger-pointing as to blame. I am
not that computer-literate.

potpie-ga,
Couple of things:
---At your site, when I click on "Your thoughts", I am taken to a
non-working link ("The page cannot be found"). This needs to be fixed
by a web-designer, since I gather you're not really that conversant in
these things yourself.
--When I sent you a message, the underlying address that the message
was sent to was: Satchel2468@aol.com
If this is NOT the correct address, then, again, you'll need to get
someone to fix it for you.
--Also, there is another email address available on the same page:
jim@twowaytelevision.org. HOWEVER, this address is (oddly) invisible
to viewers. This appears to be a mistake in the web page design.
I beleive these errors probably account for much, if not all, of the
problems you're having. The key thing, most likely, is to make sure
the Satchel2468@aol.com address is the one you want to use.
Let me know if this is helpful to you.

Clarification of Question by

pafalafa-ga,
In the past, when I send test-messages to myself using the "Ask a
Question" contact link on the home page -- the only contact link
working presently -- I do receive them in my AOL mailbox. I believe
you have my email correct, from your recent question clarification to
me. My website designer designed messages sent from the contact links
to be routed from my site's email address with EarthLink to me at AOL.
The messages arrive in my New Mail with an identifying "CGI" from the
sender. That is owing to my computer illiteracy, involved difficulty I
was having with Outlook Express as I recall. However, I do not believe
that re-routing of contact messages, for which I heartily applauded my
webdesigner, plays any role in this problem. Some related history: A
year ago,I disabled the Bulletin Board when it began to attract
X-rated messages almost exclusively, with assistance from EarthLink
staff. Another potential contact link, "Your Thoughts," has also been
disabled, leaving just the one mentioned, top. Since the inception of
my website in 2002, when the URL was twowaytelevision.org (still
operative), I may have had 100,000 visitors. This is a modest total
compared with some, but considering what I'm 'selling' -- nothing
(some original ideas) -- it is impressive. Could one-tenth of a
million visitors tiptoe through your house and hardly leave a
foot-print? The mystery is why these visitors are not more
communicative, or if blocking of a kind is in place. Lots of
questions, too few answers. Precise visitor totals from past years
are available from Urchin, and obtainable. Thanks for your interest
and investigative spirit.
