Question ID: 448598
Are there programs, online, or in person, that give certification for
medical Estheticians? The Esthetician that works at our dermatology
clinic received training at a cosmetic esthetician school. In order to
maintain her certification, she needs to provide proof of hours
worked, but the cosmetic industry will only recognize hours in a salon
to grant (re)certification. The procedures she is doing are well
beyond salon training and is under the supervision of a physisican.
She is performing medical strength glycolic peels and assisting with
botox and restylane injections, assiting in laser hair removal and
acne laser treatments. There are many Estheticians working in
medical/dermatology ofices and in a similar situation. Are there
programs or examinations available to get certified as a MEDICAL (not
cosmetic/salon)
esthetician or that will give certification for someone working in a
medical (i.e. not salon) setting?
Thanks,
Dr. Crutchfield

Medical Esthetics Program
Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics

The 1200 Hour Medical Esthetics Program aligns the medical
esthetician's training firmly with current medical esthetic needs. The
curriculum provides an overview of what can be expected in a medical
setting, and bridges the gap between medical and esthetic theory and
treatment. Students can expect to develop an understanding of surgical
and laser procedures, evaluate skin care products and ingredients, and
practice pre- and post-operative care routines.

?During the past few years the role of the skin care therapist has
evolved to complement the rapidly expanding field of cosmetic

operative care.

England are now offering the Advanced Diploma of Health Science

Request for Answer Clarification by crutchfield-ga on 29 Dec 2004 17:44 PST
Thanks. Since we already have a trained, certified esthetician working
in our office, I guess what I am looking for is the ability to get
credit for her current experience or for her to take (minimal)
additional accredited online (distance) learning/training or take a
certifying examination that, if passed, would certify her as a
medical esthetician. I am not interested in her traveling to "start
over" and take a new 6 month couse elsewhere. She is currently
certified (but certification is running out, and will only be
recertified if hours are documented in a salon, not medical office),
so the request may fall under the category of "re-certification", but
for the experience of a 'medical' esthetician.
thanks
Thanks

Dear Dr. Crutchfield,

Thank you for your clarification.

Please let me know if this is what you require?
http://www.medical-esthetics.com/news-0602.htm

(To bypass M&EA training classes and apply for exam on years of

Testing, pay addt?l $75.00 application fee, complete all requested
info including training info on certification application - mail in to
ETS for approval. Upon approval - proctor fee may apply for exam
dates - this is a longer exam, (most order the manual MediEsthetics to

If this isn't the exact information you need, just let me know and I
will request the removal of my answer. That way another researcher can
