I have an mp3 player that can be used to store files on. I used it as
a backup for my files when I formatted my hard-drive, but when I went
to put the files back on my computer, one of the folders was corrupt.

I connected it to my computer(Win XP) via the usb cable and ran chkdsk /R on
it. I let it run over night and the next morning, I checked the disk.
The folder had disappeared, and I read that chkdsk renames the
recovered files and puts them in the system directory.

I searched my computer for the files, but I couldn't find them. Then,
I checked the hard drive space and it hadn't changed, so all of the
files were still on the mp3 player. I removed all of the files off of
the mp3 player except for the system files and it still showed that
the contents of my folder were taking up space on the drive, but I
can't see them.

I have looked through all of the folders using Windows Explorer on the mp3 player,
but I can't find my files. I browsed the files on my mp3 player and can see my
files, but I can't see them in Windows to restore them to their original filetypes.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

You can go to www.download.com and search for file recovery software.
There are a few freeware (or free to try) that you can use to recover
the missing files. It happened to me once before on my compact flash
which has all my vacation photo corrupted. It works.

Let me know if it doesn't work.
