I would like to know how many people are still paying to play text-based
online games with the huge influx of new online graphical games.

I've never heard of anyone paying to play a MUD. All the ones I know
are free. They typically do cost a little to operate, however.

Games made by Simutronics and Skotos are both pay text-based games. I
know there are a few still in development, but will be charge MUDS
when they complete.
