There are two rap/hip-hop songs I am trying to track down whose
artists I do not know. Can you help? I'd love to support these
artists, whoever they are. I heard these songs last year on a
borrowed CD and the person I borrowed it from doesn't know who they
are either.

The first song -
I believe the title is "the blessing of the sunflower," although I am
not sure about that. The lyric snippets (other than "the blessing of
the sunflower") that I remember are, "1987(?) was the year the music
found me. I accepted proudly." and "another Iranian family breaks out
from the fundamentalist gates of home."

The second song -
The chorus goes: "Every child, woman and man / It's up to you, just
do whatever you can / Livin life no limits / Preparin for the any day
pivot / You only get it what you give it."
and the bridge: "When was the last time you smiled? When was the
last time you felt content? This is the moment when your life begins
again."

hmmm you said 1987 do you know if it is a solo artist, group and if
they are east coast or west coast rappers? do you know what they look
like? is it hard core rap or hip hop?

I think he said 1987, but am not sure. It was nineteen eighty something.

I believe the sunflower one is west coast based because he mentions LA
or maybe the Valley in the song (hell, he might have even said Sherman
Oaks, but that might also just be my own experiences with Persians;
memory's a funny thing).

The second one, I am not sure.

Actually, both these songs are reminiscent of Talib Kweli to me (but I
don't think either one is), so maybe they're both east coast. As for
whether this is hard core rap or hip-hop, I would guess hip-hop, but I
get uncertain when it comes to label and genre divisions. I hope
"underground" is not a total misnomer here.

I would venture to guess that the first song is by a solo artist and
the second is by a group; however, I don't know.
