I am trying to find the title of a Children's Book my husband read in
Elementary school as a kid, this would be late 60's early 70's. It is
the story of a boy who receives a mounted tiger's head from his
adventurer Uncle. He hangs the head in his tree-house / fort, and
strange things begin to happen in his town, and the tiger begins to
grow... legs appear, then a body, until one day it is gone, and all
that's left is the plaque the head was mounted on. My husband also
remembers something about a mudslide, and says he thought the title or
character's name was Phineas George. Thank you!

Does this sound like the right book?

" I remember this book as having a black cover and it had to do with a little
black boy who was always being terrorized by his sisters (they lock him in
a closet at one point i think) Then one day his uncle (?) brings or
sends him a present from africa or somewhere and I think it's a tiger's
head. anyway, the little boy dresses up in the skin (or head) and then his
sisters start to treat him better. "

If this is the same book that you have in mind, I can provide you with
the title and author.

No, doesn't sound right. A part of the book is that the main
character and his friend go up to the fort at night, and the tiger
head is gone, with only the plaque remaining. Then they think they
see the eyes shining at night out in the woods. When the go back to
the fort in the morning, the tiger head is there again, now with a bit
more of it. The town is aware this tiger is out on the loose, and may
have started hunting it?? It ends with the tiger either directly, or
indirectly rescuing a child from the ?mudslide? and after that it
never is on the plaque again. The tiger is gone, then a cliff hanger
with another package arriving from the Uncle. Vague details....

Hello.

Okay, thanks for letting me know that the book I mentioned above was not right.

I went back to the drawing board and determined that your book was
actually "Monty and the Tree House" (1967) by Ruth Christoffer
Carlsen.

From Alibris.com:

"When Monty and a friend install a stuffed tiger's head in their tree
house, strange events begin to take place."

I'm not shure, perhaps is it Uncle Tom's Cabin?
