I have a Dell A940 All-In-One Printer/Scanner/Copier/Fax machine.
However, Dell doesn't make their own ink cartridges. And I do not
know who else makes ink cartridges that are compatible with it. Can
anyone help advise me as to which ink cartridges to buy, which will be
compatible. The folks in the stores seem to not know how to direct
me. We're talking both black ink and color. Thanks.

Does this look like your printer? The dell A940 is made by lexmark. It
is the same machine. You can check the ink under the supplies section.
So you can just buy lexmark ink.

Sucker5,

It is my pleasure to meet you. The photo in the link you posted does
not look like my machine. I formerly had a Lexmark x73 all in one,
and the cartridges from that machine did not fit at all into my new
machine.

Is there a link showing Lexmark makes Dell all in ones? bluestreak

The link above will take you to the page for this printer's ink. Dell
does manufactur their own ink.

This is the same printer as the lexmark X5150, You can go to staples
or best buy and purchase the black ink cartridge: #82 (part # 18L0032)
and color #83 (part 18L0042). or buy direct from lexmark here:

Blue --

These guys provide refilled cartridges for the Dell A940. I've used
them and they're quick and reliable. You DON'T want to refill the
cartridges yourself, but rather order a Jetpack to mail back old
cartridges and have them mail you freshly filled ones. (They won't be
yours, just exchanges):

Reminds me that I have to order some new cartridges for my old H-P!

Best regards,

Lexmark does make the printers for Dell. The problem is that the
cartridges are changed by the tops. They are the exact same as the
lexmark except they fit into the printer a different way. Dell does
not make their ink. Lexmark does this for them, but because of
contracts, Lexmark can not directly sell the cartridges. They have to
be sold through Dell. I also find that Dell no longer supports this
printer. The only way for you to get ink for your printer is refill
cartridges.

Friends,

I have gotten 5 excellent answers to my question. And any of them
could have proven good enough to win. I used emorymatt's answer, went
to her link, ordered the cartridge, it arrived. Last night I
installed it into the printer, installed the printer via the
instalation disc they sent, and now the printer works fine.

So, I reward emorymatt with the sucessful hit, even though all were
good enough to do the job. So I need to thank all of you guys for
your time and investment into my question. If I could I would reward
all of you, but the rules prevent me. Much love to all of you.

Emorymatt, could you resubmit your comment as an answer, so I can
credit and tip you? Thanks so much. bluestreak

Hello, after ordering my dell computer and getting a printer i found
out that the ink comes from dell, my question is, can I get lexmark
ink for my Dell "All in one Printer 942"?

ctcivilwar,

I do not know the answer. I have a Dell A940, not a 942. I just got
my ink by using the link supplied by emorymatt. That is all I know.
Perhaps some of the others can answer your question. bluestreak
