I'm searching for an article that was published in "The Messenger" in
1906. I don't have a complete citation, and there were a lot of
periodicals called "The Messenger" so my library hasn't been able to
help. I'll list all the information I have, and see if someone can
find it. Full text is not required, I just need a complete citation
so I can request a copy by ILL.

date: August, 1906
periodical: "The Messenger" (published at 27, 29, West street, New York)
pages: 113-130
Author: Hubert Thurston
Title: unknown
Topic: the marriage of King Alfonso XIII of Spain, and the history of
Spanish wedding ceremonies (I'm guessing, from a couple sources that
mention the article)

Dear fstokens,

I found the article you are referring to mentioned in the online
version of the Catholic Encyclopedia in an article on the Ritual of
Marriage:
"Certain it is, in any case, that in Spain and in some parts of France
thirteen pieces of money, known in French as the "Treizain", are still
blessed and given to the bride along with the ring. The ceremony was
duly observed at the marriage of King Alfonso of Spain, in 1906 (see
"The Messenger", 1906, 113-130)."
http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/09703b.htm

I then searched the rest of the Catholic Encyclopedia for similar
mentionings of that publication. And I was successful. The article on
the Encyclopedia itself says:
"On January 11, 1905, Charles G. Herbermann, Professor of Latin and
Librarian of the College of the City of New York, (...) and John J.
Wynne, S.J., Editor of The Messenger, held their first editorial
meeting at the office of The Messenger, in West Sixteenth Street, New
York."
http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/00001a.htm

By additional resarch, I found out that the full name of the
publication "The Messenger", whose editor John J. Wynne was, was "The
Messenger of the Sacred Heart", a monthly Catholic publication. The
Catholic Encyclopedia often refers to this publication simply as "The
Messenger", and there is no reason to believe that they meant a
different magazine in the Marriage Ritual article, since I found no
example that the Encyclopedia ever used "The Messenger" for referring
to a publication other than "The Messenger of the Sacred Heart".

I thought that the library had checked into "Messenger of the Sacred
Heart" but your arguement seems convincing. I'll try again with the
more detailed information and give a rating after I see the results.
Thanks!

Dear fstokens,

In case the answer proves, despite my effort, to be incorrect, you can
request a full refund. You will not have to pay for information that
does not meet your needs. But of course I hope that I was able to
provide what you need.
